GM to launch electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup with nearly 650 km range

General Motors has announced plans to produce an electric version of its best-selling Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. GM President Mark Reuss said Tuesday that the Chevrolet Silverado electric full-size pickup truck would be based on GM’s proprietary Ultium battery platform. The range of an electric vehicle on a full charge will be over 400 miles (over 644 km).

The electric Silverado will be built at Factory Zero, recently renamed Detroit-Hamtramck, which will build electric and self-driving vehicles. The plant is currently undergoing over $ 2 billion in modernization and will also produce all-electric crossovers and pickups under the Hummer brand.

The electric Silverado is speculated to compete with Ford’s F-150 electric pickup, although the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and many other models cannot be dismissed either.

It is not yet known when the electric Silverado will go into series production. Most likely, this will happen before 2025. By this time, GM plans to deliver more than 1 million electric vehicles worldwide and master the production of about 30 electric models.
