Experimental Shoelace did not last a year

Google has been known for the past few years for its manic desire to shut down its own services. Only the lazy one did not joke over the “ Google cemetery, ” even Google itself went through the topic. And now, in the list of ruined projects, replenishment is again.

Google cemetery is growing. Another social network launched under the knife

This time, Google puts under the knife experimental social network Shoelace. The project was launched in the Area 120 pilot division in mid-2019. Shoelace is designed to help people gather and meet in the real world who live close to each other and have similar interests. The service is available only in the video application for iOS and only in New York.

Unfortunately, the project did not get out of the test phase – Google announced its imminent closure. Shoelace will cease to exist on May 12, 2020.

As the company explained, the service was another victim of the coronavirus pandemic. The developers believe that now is not the time to invest in the project, given the current crisis in the field of health. The developers do not have plans to revive Shoelace in the future. On May 12, all user data will be deleted, but for now, you can save a copy by filling out a special form
