The authorities will undertake the promotion of operating systems

The Southern Technology Center of China in Shenzhen is making efforts to popularize operating systems manufactured by Huawei Technologies.

Shenzhen will try to attract companies and employees to the city to create an entire industry based on the HarmonyOS and EulerOS operating systems developed by the local giant.

The city wants to remove dependence on foreign technology in key operating systems and help HarmonyOS and EulerOS become the leading software in the world. According to the plan, by 2025 in Shenzhen, more than 40% of the city’s new “critical information infrastructure” operators will use EulerOS. And HarmonyOS should take an “important place” in the Chinese ecosystem of smart devices. By the same year, more than 10 industries and at least 100 companies must use these operating systems.

As part of these efforts, Shenzhen will encourage government agencies and state-owned enterprises to use the systems in areas such as water supply, transportation and education. The authorities are also encouraging the manufacturing, internet, financial, energy and medical industries to use products with these systems.

HarmonyOS for mobile devices and the Internet of Things was introduced in 2019, after Washington imposed sanctions on Huawei and Google stopped offering its suite of mobile software services to the company. EulerOS, a Linux distribution designed for enterprise servers, was first released in 2021.
