HomePod mini won’t be able to pair with original HomePod
Apple yesterday unveiled the HomePod mini, the company’s second product in this category, following the release of the original HomePod in 2017. Many users wondered if the new device would be able to work in stereo with the old smart speaker. As it became known, such an opportunity, unfortunately, is absent.
However, this does not mean that the two devices cannot be used together at all. HomePod and HomePod mini can be fully used to play music in different rooms. In addition, both devices will be able to fully work with the new Intercom intercom feature. Apple has said a major update is underway for the original HomePod that will add many of the features announced with the HomePod mini, including support for third-party audio streaming services.
It is also worth noting that the original HomePods will receive Home Theater support, providing 5.1 or 7.1 multi-channel audio with Dolby Atmos support, working in conjunction with the Apple TV 4K. The HomePod mini, unfortunately, lacks this capability. In addition, HomePod and HomePod mini cannot be connected to Apple TV at the same time.
As a reminder, HomePod mini will go on sale from November 16 for $ 99. Acceptance of pre-orders will begin on November 6.
