Last year, Kevin Smith made a triumphant return to Quick Stop Groceries with his film Clerks III, bringing back beloved characters from the View Askewniverse. One of those returning characters was Rosario Dawson’s Becky Scott, but her reappearance came with a tragic twist as her character had passed away between the two Clerks movies. In a recent interview with THR, Rosario Dawson shared her reaction to Becky’s fate in Clerks III.

“When Kevin first approached me about Clerks III, I thought we might do a Force Ghost Becky, but unfortunately, our budget couldn’t accommodate that,” Rosario Dawson revealed. Despite the creative limitations, she expressed her gratitude that Kevin Smith is still with us today. The filmmaker had previously experienced a widowmaker heart attack, and there was a real possibility of losing him. Rosario mentioned that she hadn’t read the earlier script for Clerks III, leaving her unaware of Becky’s fate in that version. However, in the current iteration, Kevin took the story to poignant and intense places, delving into themes of grief and loss. Rosario also noted that a similar emotional exploration can be found in the upcoming film Haunted Mansion.

The actress admitted that she was initially taken aback by Becky’s fate, finding it a bit shocking. However, she came to understand and appreciate the direction Kevin chose to take with the character. Despite the unexpected turn, Rosario expressed her love for the movie and the positive response it received from audiences. She praised her co-star, Brian O’Halloran, for his exceptional performance in the film.

Rosario Dawson’s next project is Disney’s Haunted Mansion, where she plays a single mother who moves into a haunted house with her young son and enlists a team of supposed spiritual experts to rid their home of supernatural intruders. The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jared Leto, Chase W. Dillon, Hasan Minhaj, Winona Ryder, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Haunted Mansion is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28th, and anticipation is building for this thrilling new adventure.
