But AMD’s share has halved in a year
Nvidia continues to dominate the discrete graphics market, and Intel continues to gradually increase its share, according to Jon Peddie Research.
According to the results of the first quarter, Nvidia occupied 84% of the market against 75% a year earlier. True, a quarter earlier, the company’s share was even higher and amounted to 86%.
AMD’s share has halved over the year: from 24% to 12%, while Intel’s share has doubled over the quarter, to 4%. A year ago, Arc video cards were simply not on the market yet. Interestingly, it turns out that Intel bit off the market share from Nvidia, and not from the weaker AMD.
Intel bites off Nvidia’s graphics card market share
Sales of discrete graphics cards as a whole in annual terms fell by 38.2%, to 6.3 million units.
The supply of new cards was affected by the decline in the PC market due to concerns about inflation and layoffs. As stocks dwindle, next-generation board sales will pick up, but not until the third quarter. The second quarter is traditionally a loss-making quarter and this year will be no exception, but it probably won’t be as tough as one might expect.
