EV9 starts at $56,395

Kia’s first electric seven-passenger vehicle will begin arriving in US showrooms before the end of the year. Customers can now pre-order the base EV9 Light for $56,395. The South Korean manufacturer wants to protect its customers from markups and is reportedly asking its dealers not to raise prices.

CarsDirect obtained a letter sent by Kia to its US dealers in which the company politely asked retailers to do this: “The EV9 buyer is an important new user of the Kia brand and price transparency will be paramount to their buying experience. We ask that dealers sell the EV9 at retail at no premium to MSRP.”

CarsDirect recalls that there were huge markups on the EV6 at some dealers. At the time, a premium of up to $20,000 was reported over MSRP. Motor1 experts believe that maintaining the recommended retail price of an electric crossover may be almost impossible for dealers.

The electric three-row SUV comes in five available trim levels – Light Long Range RWD, Wind AWD, Land AWD and GT-Line AWD. The latest model is the top-end model, starting at $75,395.

The first examples delivered to the US market will be imported from South Korea, but Kia plans to begin local production in West Point, Georgia in 2024.
