MG Windsor EV to Receive 50.6 kWh Battery

MG Motor is preparing to give its popular electric vehicle, the MG Windsor EV, a significant update in May 2025. This upgrade is expected to include a larger 50.6 kWh battery pack, currently available in its Indonesian counterpart, the Wuling Cloud EV. With this enhancement, Indian customers can anticipate a notable improvement in driving range and possibly additional features to further elevate the EV’s appeal.

Let’s take a closer look at what the upcoming MG Windsor EV upgrade will bring to the table.

A Bigger Battery for More Range

From 38 kWh to 50.6 kWh — A Welcome Boost

Until now, the MG Windsor EV in India has only been offered with a 38 kWh battery pack, delivering a MIDC-claimed range of around 332 km. However, with the anticipated 50.6 kWh battery, that range could increase to approximately 460 km (based on CLTC figures from the Wuling Cloud EV). This brings the Windsor EV closer to its rivals like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, both of which have made significant strides in long-range EV offerings.

Comparison of Battery Options:

Specification Current Windsor EV Upcoming Windsor EV
Battery Capacity 38 kWh 50.6 kWh
Motor Output 136 PS / 200 Nm 136 PS / 200 Nm
Claimed Range 332 km (MIDC) 460 km (CLTC est.)
Number of Motors 1 1

Although the motor output remains the same, the extended battery capacity offers a massive improvement in practical usage, especially for long-distance commuters.

New Feature Additions Inspired by International Models

MG may take this opportunity to enhance the Windsor’s feature list by borrowing a few high-end tech components from the global Wuling Cloud EV variant.

Possible New Features

  • 4-way Powered Front Passenger Seat: Currently unavailable in the Indian model, this feature could enhance comfort, especially for longer trips.

  • ADAS Level-2 Capabilities: Features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking may debut in the upgraded Windsor, providing improved driving assistance and safety.

Retained Features That Make Windsor a Best-Seller

Despite the possible upgrades, the Windsor EV will likely retain its existing feature-rich interior. These include:

  • 15.6-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

  • 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster

  • 9-speaker Infinity sound system

  • 6-way power-adjustable, ventilated front driver’s seat

  • Tilt & telescopic steering

  • Rain-sensing wipers

  • Wireless charging pad

  • 135-degree reclining rear seats

  • Fixed glass roof

  • Cruise control and 256-color ambient lighting

Comprehensive Safety Package

Safety has always been a core strength for MG, and the Windsor EV will likely continue with:

  • 6 airbags

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

  • Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control

  • Rear parking sensors

  • Electronic Parking Brake with auto-hold

  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

  • 360-degree surround camera

The addition of Level-2 ADAS could position the Windsor EV as one of the safest electric hatchbacks in its segment.

Pricing & Market Position

The current MG Windsor EV is priced as follows:

  • Battery Subscription Plan: ₹10 lakh to ₹12 lakh (₹3.9 per km usage cost)

  • Vehicle Ownership Model: ₹14 lakh to ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom)

With the upcoming enhancements, especially the larger battery and new features, the revised Windsor EV is expected to command a premium, potentially pushing prices beyond ₹17 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite this, it will continue to compete directly with:

  • Tata Nexon EV

  • Mahindra XUV400 EV

  • Tata Punch EV
