This is a more versatile solution than Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution
VSR (Video Super Resolution) technology has appeared in the Microsoft Edge browser, which, with the help of AI, can increase the resolution of videos.
The developers note that VSR only works with videos whose resolution is below 720p, but not less than 192 pixels in width or height. The technology does not work with content that has DRM protection (PlayReady or Widevine). And finally, one more important limitation: in order for VSR to work, the device (laptop) must be powered by the mains, not the battery.
Microsoft introduced video upscaling technology in the Edge browser
In general, there are enough limitations, but there is one important advantage: the technology works with all current Nvidia video cards (GeForce RTX 20, 30 and 40) and AMD (from Radeon RX 5700 and newer). The company is also working on the possibility of using VSR with GPUs built into the CPU.
Along with upscaling, VSR eliminates compression artifacts and improves text clarity. By default, VSR is enabled for about 50% of browser users, but you can enable it yourself using this flag: edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution (may not be available for everyone).
Recall that earlier a similar technology appeared in Nvidia . But RTX Video Super Resolution only works with GeForce RTX 30 and RTX 40 series accelerators.
