Mobile version of GeForce RTX 3070 lit up in the photo in the company of 8 GB of GDDR6 memory

A photo of a pre-production sample of the mobile version of the GeForce RTX 3070 video card based on the new NVIDIA Ampere architecture has appeared on the Web. Its graphics chip, labeled GN20-E5-A1, is presumably a version of GA104, which is used in desktop versions of GeForce RTX 3070 video cards.

If this is true, then we have before us the first case of the appearance of GA104 in the flesh. In addition, the photo allows for the first time to see how the GDDR6 memory modules are located around the GPU. Recall that GDDR6X memory is used only in the older GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 video cards. Judging by the photo, the location of the memory chips in the new generation of mobile graphics is denser than in the previous one.

The chip manufacturer is SK Hynix. The chip cover can also be marked with the H56C8H24AIR marking. A quick search on it shows that the same chips are used, for example, in mobile AMD Radeon Pro 550M video cards. As for the amount of memory, it is 8 GB. The memory itself is connected via a 256-bit bus.

The full GA104 GPU is equipped with 6144 CUDA cores. How different is the mobile version – the question is still open. According to VideoCardz, mobile graphics can use the same 5888 CUDA cores that are used in the desktop version of the GeForce RTX 3070, but the GPU frequency in the mobile version will be much lower than in the desktop version. Citing its sources, the resource also indicates that NVIDIA is going to present the mobile graphics GeForce RTX 30-series somewhere closer to CES 2021.
