Nearby Share in August may appear on all devices with Android 6.0 and higher

It became known that over the past few weeks, Google has been testing the beta version of Nearby Share for Android, which makes it easy to exchange data and should become a kind of AirDrop analog for iOS devices.

Now, this function is available to a small number of users, but this will change in August, as the Nearby Share tool will be distributed to all devices with Android 6.0 and newer versions of the operating system.

This was announced on his Twitter page by the editor of the resource XDA Developers Mishaal Rahman. He also noted that Google had already notified OEMs of the intention to extend the Nearby Share feature through Google Play Services to all devices running Android Marshmallow or higher versions of the OS.

The source also reports that, in addition to Android devices, Nearby Share support will appear on other platforms. It is expected that users of Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS will be able to transfer files using this tool. In addition, there will be support for transferring files between devices running different operating systems. Probably cross-platform support should make Nearby Share more useful than AirDrop, which only works on Apple devices.
