Apple has been developing its 5G modems for a long time

Rumors about the fourth generation iPhone SE have been circulating for several months now. Dae-Jong Yoon, an analyst at UBI Research, said this week that the mass production of the fourth-generation iPhone SE has been postponed until 2025, according to the Korean edition of The Elec. Other sources agree that the device will not launch until 2025, including analysts Ming-Chi Kuo, Jeff Pu and Blaine Curtis.

Kuo said in April that the next iPhone SE will feature an Apple-designed 5G modem and have a similar design to the standard iPhone 14. The device will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, and a flat bezel around the perimeter. However, since the device’s launch has reportedly been delayed, Apple’s plans may change.

Apple has reportedly been planning to launch its own modem since at least 2018 and acquired most of Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019. For now, it looks like the modem won’t be ready until 2025 at the earliest, and all iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models are expected to use Qualcomm modems.

The current iPhone SE was released in March 2022 and features a 4.7-inch LCD, Touch ID, 5G, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an Apple A15 Bionic SoC. Starting at $429 in the US, this is the most affordable iPhone model in Apple’s lineup.
