Tesla plans to double the number of components from India
US electric vehicle maker Tesla plans to double the number of components it imports from India, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced in a post on social media site X.
“Proud to see the growing role of Indian auto component suppliers in Tesla’s electric vehicle supply chain. The company is on track to double imports of components from India,” Piyush Goyal wrote in X after visiting Tesla’s manufacturing facility in Fremont, California.
New Teslas will be twice as big as Indian ones
However, he was unable to meet Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his visit to the plant, according to Goyal. He said in September that Tesla aims to buy $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion worth of components from India this year, having purchased $1 billion worth of components last year.
The minister’s visit to the United States was associated with a discussion of Tesla’s plans to open a plant in India, launch production of $24,000 cars there, buy more components and create charging infrastructure throughout the country.
