Nintendo will increase production of Switch consoles by another 20% to keep up with strong demand

It became known about the intention of the Japanese company Nintendo for the second time this year to increase the production of Switch game consoles. The manufacturer’s new goal is to deliver 30 million Switch units by the end of this fiscal year. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its own informed sources.

For most of this year, Nintendo has been struggling to keep up with skyrocketing demand for the Switch, fueled by the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the coronavirus pandemic as people began to buy more game consoles during self-isolation. In early August, it was reported that the production volume of the Switch would be increased to 25 million units, but this was not enough, so now the production facilities involved in the assembly of Nintendo game consoles are used at 120%.

Switch production was limited earlier this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in China, but the company has since managed to completely restore its supply chains, which are now fully operational. Regardless, demand for the Switch remains strong even months after the release of Animal Crossing, whose success was one of the main drivers behind the console’s sales growth earlier in the year.

It’s worth noting that the launch of the more affordable version of the Switch Lite console late last year helped expand the audience for Nintendo devices. The company is currently working on an updated version of Switch and is expanding the line of games available.
