Much more profitable
At the moment, the undisputed leader among accelerators for AI is Nvidia. But competitors are not asleep, and AMD has once again optimized its software. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is now a better value for money than the RTX 4080, not only in games, but also in a number of AI tasks.
Testing in Stable Diffusion with an A111 Xformers configuration using Microsoft Olive and DirectML showed that the AMD flagship achieves a performance of 18.59 iterations per second, which is an order of magnitude higher than the early result of 1.87 iterations per second.
Now the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is more profitable than the GeForce RTX 4080 not only in games
The RTX 4080 is slightly faster in absolute terms, with 19.41 iterations per second. However, the RTX 4080 starts at $1,100 in the US, while the Radeon RX 7900 XTX starts at $970. In Europe, the price ratio is about the same: from 1150 and 950 euros, respectively.
Using the lesser-known SHARK configuration, the performance of the AMD adapter even rises to 20.76 iterations per second.
Of course, this is not enough to dethrone Nvidia in this market, but it shows the potential of AMD cards.
