The 2024 Nissan Leaf has become slightly more affordable in the United States following confirmation that it has qualified for the federal electric vehicle tax credit. That brings the starting price down to $24,390.

The automaker has confirmed that the Leaf meets ACA requirements for battery components because it and its battery are assembled in Smyrna, Tennessee. This entitles him to a rebate of $3,750.

However, Nissan notes that models must be purchased and put into service by December 31, 2023. Additionally, the customer must meet all purchase and income criteria to receive the Electric Vehicle Tax Credit as outlined in the Internal Revenue Code. The average gross income of couples cannot exceed $300,000 per year, the income of heads of households cannot exceed $225,000, and the income of all other filers cannot exceed $150,000.

“For more than a decade, LEAF has been one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market,” said Judy Wheeler, Nissan vice president of U.S. sales and regional operations. “Eligibility for a portion of the federal Electric Vehicle Tax Credit makes LEAF available to even more customers who are ready to make the switch to an electric vehicle.”

The 2024 Nissan Leaf is only eligible for half of the available $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit because it does not meet the critical minerals requirement for the remaining $3,750.

The 2024 Nissan Leaf was introduced in June of this year.
