The launch of the Pixel 4a, low-cost version of Google’s Pixel 4 smartphone, was scheduled for May, during the annual Google I / O 2020 conference. It’s not a strange fact: Google has never been perfect, or perhaps very interested, in keeping the details secret on its smartphones. It was the same with the Pixel 3 and with the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, and it is also this year, with the new cheap smartphones from Google. In recent days, therefore, several leaks have circulated, which showed a Piexl 4a quite different from the Pixel 4 for a simple reason: the economic device does not have the radar for facial recognition and 3D gestures. Therefore it does not need the large frame that makes the older brother one of the least attractive smartphones of last 2019. Then there were videos showing working prototypes of the Pixel 4a, practically identical to the renders seen in previous leaks. And now, finally, comes the official confirmation from Google itself: the billboards that show the price and design of the Pixel 4a.
Pixel 4a: how it’s made
The Pixel 4a has a thinner upper frame than the Pixel 4, as widely expected, but still much larger than that of most competitors. The screen size is 5.8 inches and the resolution, almost guaranteed, is 2.340 × 1.80 pixels, with 443 PPI and a 60Hz refresh rate. Despite the large frame, the front camera is positioned in a hole in the upper left corner and is only 8 MP. Still. Google has accustomed us to the fact that the quality of the photos can also be obtained by focusing on Artificial Intelligence algorithms.
Behind, however, remains the large protruding square that houses a single 12 MP photographic sensor, flanked by the LED flash. Also at the rear, there is the fingerprint sensor. Under the body, there will be an SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 with Adreno 618 GPU, flanked by 6 GB of RAM (which are not few) and 64 GB of storage (which are few, considering that Google does not offer free unlimited cloud space to buyers of ” A “). Pixel 4a: how much it costs and when it comes out
The official release date of the Pixel 4a is not yet there: Google had to announce it in May, the I / O conference has jumped. We know, however, the price: starting from $ 399. Which are not a few, given the common technical characteristics of the smartphone. The fact is that Google, after all, does not need to sell smartphones to survive and that the previous Pixel 3a has sold quite well despite an identical price.
