On the official PlayStation blog, there was an important message from Sony regarding PS5 sales on the day of the console’s launch. The Japanese company decided to abandon the usual implementation of the set-top box in retail stores due to the coronavirus. The platform owner does not want buyers to contact each other and line up in a line in a pandemic.

This news was published by Sony on the main PlayStation blog and then duplicated in the regional versions of the site in the respective languages. It turns out that the company’s decision applies to all countries of the world, including Russia, the USA, the EU, and the CIS.

In a statement from SIE Content Communications Lead Producer Sid Shuman, “Hello everyone! PlayStation 5 launch day is just around the corner! To keep our players, suppliers, and employees safe from COVID-2019, we are confirming today that the console will only be available from our partners’ online retailers on November 19, the day the PS5 goes on sale. On the day of the console’s release on November 19, you will not be able to purchase it in retail stores – abandon plans to visit or queue in stores in your city that day in the hope of purchasing a PS5. Take care of yourself, stay at home, and place your order online

The only exception to the general list can be called Japan, where the sale of the set-top box in retail stores was refused at once for two reasons – due to the pandemic and a large number of pre-orders. The first batch of PS5 in the Land of the Rising Sun has already been sold out on pre-orders.

Recall: the price of the PlayStation 5 in Russia is 37,999 rubles. for the version without an optical drive and 46,999 rubles. for the edition with a disk drive.
