Porsche unveils Taycan Cross Turismo electric station wagon
Sports car manufacturer Porsche has expanded its range of electric sports cars, the Taycan, with a new versatile off-road version. As with the 2019 Taycan sports sedan, the Taycan Cross Turismo features a groundbreaking electric powertrain and high-speed 800-volt charging.
The new high-tech chassis with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension provides excellent off-road dynamics. Electricity consumption is 29.4–28.1 kWh per 100 km of track. The manufacturer provided thirty-six millimeters more space for passengers in the rear seats and over 1200 liters of additional luggage space in the station wagon compared to the sedan.
Porsche is betting heavily on electric vehicles: in 2025, half of all new cars that the company will supply to the market will be electric (that is, we are talking about full-fledged electric cars and hybrids). In 2020, one in three cars that the company delivered to the European market already had an electric powertrain.
There are four main trim levels for the Taycan Cross Turismo. All cars are equipped with a Performance Battery Plus in the basic version, with a total capacity of 93.4 kWh. The lineup is presented:
- Taycan 4 Cross Turismo: power – 380 hp. Electricity consumption – 28.1 kWh per 100 km of track in a combined cycle; maximum power in launch control mode – 476 hp. From.; acceleration to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds; maximum speed – 220 km / h; cruising range on a single charge – up to 389–456 km;
- Taycan 4S Cross Turismo: power – 490 hp. Electricity consumption – 28.1 kWh per 100 km of track in a combined cycle; maximum power in launch control mode – 571 hp. From.; acceleration to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds; maximum speed – 240 km / h; cruising range on a single charge – up to 388–452 km;
- Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo: power – 625 hp from.; electricity consumption – 28.7 kWh per 100 km of track in a combined cycle; maximum power in launch control mode – 680 hp. From.; acceleration to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds; maximum speed – 250 km / h; cruising range on a single charge – up to 395–452 km;
- Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo: power – 625 hp from.; electricity consumption – 29.4 kWh per 100 km of track in a combined cycle; the maximum power in the launch control mode is 761 hp. from.; acceleration to 100 km / h in 2.9 seconds; maximum speed – 250 km / h; range on a single charge – up to 388-419 km.A high-tech chassis with an all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension is standard on all four models. The optional off-road package increases the ground clearance by 30 mm and allows the machine to be used on rough roads. The standard “Gravel Mode” also improves the new model’s suitability for riding on uneven roads.
Off-road design features include wheel arch trims and new front, rear, and side sills. As part of the off-road design package, the Cross Turismo has special flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and the sills’ ends. They create a striking appearance and also increase stone protection.
For the Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche has developed a universal 3-bike rear rack that fits all models. One of its features is that the rear trunk door is not locked when installing bicycles. By the way, Porsche simultaneously presented two costly electric bicycles – eBike Sport and eBike Cross.
The world premiere of the new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo took place virtually at the Hyperbowl studio in Munich Exhibition Center. This impressive new studio fuses the worlds of cinema and reality: a 270-degree curved LED wall, 40 meters long and 5.5 meters high, combines with an LED ceiling to provide a 478 square meter screen with 70 million pixels. The world premiere was broadcast on newstv.porsche.com and can be viewed there at any time.
