This graphics card will only be offered by three longtime AMD partners.
At the ChinaJoy 2023 event, AMD introduced not only the top Ryzen 9 7945HX3D mobile processor, but also the Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics card (the abbreviation stands for Golden Rabbit Edition). According to rumors, this model was supposed to be a slightly lighter version of the Radeon 7900 XT, but in reality the performance was cut more.
For example, it was assumed that the Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPU (and this, by the way, Navi 31 XL) would have 5376 stream processors, but in reality there were 5120 of them. Accordingly, there are not 84, but 80 computing units.
Radeon RX 7900 GRE introduced, it will replace the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
The amount of GDDR6 memory has been reduced from 20 to 16 GB, and the width of the memory bus has also become smaller – 256 bits versus 320. There is also less fast Infinity Cache memory – the volume has decreased to 64 MB. And the memory frequency has decreased from 20 to 18 GHz. As a result, the memory bandwidth was 576 GB / s versus 640 GB / s for the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPU runs at 1270, 1880, or 2245 MHz (respectively, base mode, game mode, and Boost mode). All frequencies are lower than the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
According to official data, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE is faster than the GeForce RTX 4070, and AMD itself is positioning the newcomer as the successor to the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE will only be supplied by AMD’s three longtime partners Sapphire, PowerColor and XFX, but there will also be a reference variant. The cost of the novelty (of the same reference) is $650. In general, despite the Chinese debut, this model will receive a global registration, but not through retail, but through large PC assemblers (system integrators).
