Redmi K40 was released in February 2021, Redmi K70s – March 2022
The head of Redmi, Lu Weibing, cited interesting statistics: it turns out that 7 million people use Redmi K40 and Redmi K40s smartphones. And this is only in China.
Liu Weibing spoke about this in the context of the imminent premiere of the Redmi K70 line. He wrote on his Weibo page: “ I wonder how many [Redmi K40 owners] will switch to Redmi K70? ”

Redmi K40 debuted in February 2021, this model is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 single-chip system. Xiaomi Redmi K40S was released in March 2022, and it is also built on the Snapdragon 870.
Now it’s clear why Liu Weibing compared the cost of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with Snapdragon 870 . Apparently, Redmi believes that the basic Redmi K70 based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be so good that users of older models based on Snapdragon 870 will begin to actively switch to the new product.
