Rumors: Microsoft will add new “File Explorer” to Windows 10 next year

Rumors that Microsoft is working on a new File Explorer for Windows 10 have been circulating for a long time. However, this tool has not received any significant changes for a long time. Now, however, online sources say that the new “Explorer” may be part of the Windows 10 21H2 update, which will be released next fall.

It should be noted that in general, “Explorer” is developing and gaining new features more slowly than users might expect, and even the most requested features are still missing. These include support for tabs in Explorer.

In the past, Microsoft tried to add support for tabs using the Sets feature, which worked closely with the older version of the Edge browser. Considering that the developers abandoned the development of the old Internet browser, full support for tabs in Explorer was never implemented. Perhaps the situation will change next year.

The source notes that there is currently no official confirmation that Microsoft is preparing to release a new Explorer. The assumptions are based on characteristic changes that appeared in the test builds of the OS for insiders. In any case, Windows 10 21H2 is still a long way off, and more details on this update will appear over the next year.
