Samsung and SK Hynix have applied for a license to cooperate with Huawei

Next Tuesday will be an important milestone for Huawei Technologies, as from that date, the US authorities will ban any companies from supplying components for the needs of the Chinese giant without special permission. Two Korean memory manufacturers, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics are hoping to get it, which has already submitted their respective applications.

Business Korea reports this, stressing that Korean memory manufacturers were not the first in this area. American Micron Technology filed a similar application last month. All three major manufacturers of RAM chips, therefore, expect to continue cooperation with Huawei after the introduction of the second round of US sanctions. It is not a fact that they will receive the corresponding licenses, but the very existence of motivation, in this case, is difficult to deny.

MediaTek, which supplies Huawei with mobile processors, has also applied for a license. Initially, the US authorities tried to block Huawei’s access to mobile processors, which is why TSMC has been unable to accept new orders for the release of HiSilicon brand components since May. From mid-September, supplies for the needs of Huawei of any processors will be prohibited, so MediaTek took care of obtaining a license. The Japanese corporation Sony, which supplies Huawei with image sensors for smartphone cameras, also does not exclude the possibility of filing a profile application. Samsung and LG have stopped supplying displays for smartphones to Huawei, followed by Japan Display, which is poised to switch to other Chinese smartphone makers.
