Shohei Ohtani smashes his 39th home run of the season against the Blue Jays, retaining his position as the major league leader in home runs. Additionally, he extends his impressive streak of hitting home runs in three consecutive at-bats.
On Friday night, in the matchup between the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays, Shohei Ohtani wasted no time making an impact. He crushed a homer on the very first pitch he faced from Blue Jays’ right-hander Kevin Gausman in the opening inning. The impressive shot traveled an impressive 397 feet, landing in the right field bullpen at Rogers Centre. This home run marked his 39th of the season, securing his position as the major league leader in home runs.
However, Ohtani’s streak of homers came to an end in the third inning when he struck out swinging on a 2-2 pitch from Gausman.
Just the day before, Ohtani displayed his incredible talent during a doubleheader against Detroit. In the second game, he remarkably homered twice before exiting the game due to cramps. Prior to that, in the opener, he delivered a stunning one-hitter performance, securing his first career MLB shutout. This extraordinary feat made him the first player ever to throw a shutout in one game of a doubleheader and hit not just one, but two homers in the other game.
Remarkably, all this happened on the same day when the Angels confirmed that Ohtani would remain with the team for the rest of the season before he becomes a free agent. A true two-way superstar, Ohtani’s skills on the mound and at the plate have been nothing short of awe-inspiring.
