The platform is credited with the “1 + 5 + 2” configuration

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 single-chip system, according to recent data, will receive a configuration of processor cores “1 + 5 + 2”, while previously there were rumors about the configuration “2 + 4 + 2”.

The presence of only one super-core Cortex-X4 will be compensated by its frequency of 3.7 GHz. For comparison: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is about 3.2 GHz.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will get only two small cores

The new configuration means more medium cores and fewer small ones compared to Qualcomm’s current flagship SoC. This will increase performance even without taking into account changes in the cores and frequencies themselves. While the new configuration may seem less energy efficient, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be manufactured using TSMC’s updated N4P process technology. By the way, this means that the Qualcomm platform will not be able to compete in this parameter with the new Apple A17 Bionic SoC, which must be produced according to 3 nm standards.

Recall that today we learned that SoC Tensor G3 will have a “1 + 4 + 4” configuration , but Cortex-X3 will act as a super-core.
