There is also support for USB 4, 120 Hz screens, a built-in Wi-Fi 7 adapter, and a 5G modem

Together with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 smartphone platform, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon X Elite single-chip system for laptops running Windows. Yes, this is another attempt by Qualcomm to release a worthy replacement for Intel processors, but this time everything can work out – the characteristics of the Snapdragon X Elite look very good. At least on paper and in words.

Snapdragon X Elite – 4nm. It received an Oryon central processor with 12 cores with a frequency of 3.8 GHz. When loading one or two cores, the frequency can increase to 4.3 GHz. The total cache memory is 42 MB.

The Snapdragon X Elite includes an Adreno graphics processor with a performance of 4.6 TFLOPS – this is more than that of the PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox Series S. The Snapdragon X Elite also has a neural processor with a performance of 45 TOPS.

The platform supports LPDDR5X RAM up to 64 GB (the controller is eight-channel). Snapdragon X Elite is compatible not only with traditional PCIe Gen 4 SSDs but also with UFS 4.0 and SD v3.0 flash memory chips.

The platform has a built-in 5G Snapdragon X65 modem, and there are also integrated Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 adapters. If we talk about interface connectors, up to three USB 4, two USB 3.2 Gen 2, and DisplayPort 1.4 are supported (the picture can be displayed on three 4K monitors with a frame rate of 60 Hz or two monitors with a 5K resolution).

Unveiling the Snapdragon X Elite, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said the new SoC outperforms the 12-core Apple M2 Max and 14-core Intel Core i7-1355U in terms of single-threaded performance. At peak performance, power consumption is only a third of that of the M2 Max or Core i7-1360P.

In general, in words and on paper everything is very cheerful, but we will find out how it turns out in reality in the middle of next year: according to Qualcomm representatives, it is at this time that ready-made devices based on Snapdragon X Elite from Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell and HP will appear.
