Apple may have to look for another supplier

Apple asked Sony to increase production of screens for the Apple Vision Pro headset, but Sony refused, according to Apple Insider, citing The Elec.

So Apple will need new screen suppliers to expand the supply of Vision Pro. A possible candidate is LG Display, but the South Korean display maker has yet to start building a production line for such displays.

Sony refuses Apple to increase production of screens for Apple Vision Pro

The Elec adds that Sony already has the capacity to make 900,000 of these screens annually. At the same time, the planned deliveries for Apple are up to 200,000 screens per quarter. This means that Apple can release a maximum of about 400,000 Vision Pro headsets in 2023.

It was expected that a small number of Apple Vision Pro headsets might go on sale by the holidays, but in the end it was announced at the presentation that they would go on sale in early 2024.

Apple is already working on a cheaper version of the Vision Pro headset that will help it sell more devices, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
