Spider-Man No Way Home unveils the Green Goblin equipped with advanced Iron Man armor
Green Goblin uses pieces of Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor for his costume in concept art from Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, not only did we see various versions of Peter Parker, but the movie also brought back villains from the past two decades of Spider-Man films, including the infamous Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe. While the villain quickly abandoned the helmet from the original Sam Raimi movie, he sported a tattered purple hoodie over his battle-worn armor towards the end of the film, presenting an intriguing appearance for the deranged character. However, fascinating concept art from the Spider-Man sequel reveals an alternative approach, showcasing Green Goblin with elements of Iron Man’s Mark VI armor incorporated into his costume.
The concept art, featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home – The Art of the Movie, includes different depictions of Green Goblin utilizing sections of Iron Man’s armor. One of the designs even displays the armor painted in the classic purple hue, a nod to the character’s traditional color scheme from the comics.
While the addition of Iron Man’s armor to the Green Goblin suit undoubtedly looks striking, ultimately, the filmmakers chose the version seen in the final movie. As for the origin of Green Goblin’s access to Tony Stark’s armor, concept artist Phil Saunders shared that an earlier version of the script involved the villains raiding a Damage Control container ship filled with Stark tech components. This plotline would have reflected Norman Osborn’s fractured mental state through his collection of mismatched armor pieces.
In the end, Spider-Man: No Way Home presented a compelling array of possibilities, and it’s fascinating to see the creative exploration that goes into designing these iconic characters for the big screen.
