Testing a prototype close to the production version
In China, a prototype of the BYD Leopard 8 SUV (aka Bao Bao 8) was filmed on public roads. The car shown in the photo is no longer a concept, it is much closer to the road version, so the body panels were covered with camouflage film so as not to declassify the design ahead of time.
The SUV retains the retractable door handles of the concept, but, for example, the rear-view mirrors are completely ordinary – the concept had cameras installed instead of them. There is no exact data on the dimensions, but from the shape of the glazing and the proportions of the body we can judge that the length will be greater than that of the Leopard 5 (4890 mm) – it will exceed the 5-meter mark.
The 680-horsepower BYD Leopard 8 has been tested
BYD Leopard 8 will be a hybrid, the power plant will include a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors, and the total system power will be 680 hp. And the expense, at the same time, will not be large.
There is no data on equipment, but even the younger Leopard 5 has three regular screens and one 50-inch projection screen, 11 airbags, and Devialet acoustics. The model one step higher will be better equipped.
Thus, in terms of size, power, and equipment, BYD Leopard 8 will surpass the Tank 500 and Land Cruiser 300. There is no information on the price yet; the official premiere of the new product will take place in 2024.
