Sad news for fans of real Toyota SUVs: after 17 years of production, the interesting and original model Toyota FJ Cruiser is retired. In the US, the car has not been sold for several years, but until recently it was still available in a number of countries – in South Africa, Chile and the Philippines. But now that’s all: sales have been finally curtailed, as well as production (the FJ Cruiser was produced in Japan).
The Toyota FJ Cruiser has been produced since 2006 and was equipped with a single engine – a 4-liter V6 1GR-FE gasoline engine, which worked either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or with an “automatic”. Four-wheel drive, large approach and departure angles and a short base (length – 4670 mm, wheelbase – 2690 mm) allowed the FJ Cruiser to pass where full-size SUVs could not get through.
Despite the fact that the FJ Cruiser is retiring, it may still have an ideological successor, but not a gasoline one, but an electric one. Earlier, Toyota showed off a prototype of the Compact Cruiser EV, which for its appearance can be called a modernized version of the FJ Cruiser.
