Negotiations stopped

The US does not want to supply F-35 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), fearing that secret technology could be transferred to China. This was reported by the British newspaper The Financial Times, citing sources.

Under Donald Trump, who served as President of the United States from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021, relations between the United States and the UAE have normalized. But the Joe Biden administration is worried about possible technology leaks, so negotiations to sell the F-35 have stalled. It is also reported that the UAE authorities are disappointed that the US is pushing for restrictions on the use of fighter jets.

Back in 2020, the State Department notified Congress of its intention to officially authorize the sale to the UAE of up to 50 Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets, as well as 18 MQ-9B reconnaissance drones and other advanced weapons systems, totaling about $24 billion.

As soon as Donald Trump was replaced by Joe Biden, the new Washington administration suspended US arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE in order to “assess billions of dollars in arms transfer transactions” that had been approved under Trump.

At the end of 2021, there were reports that the Emirates may break the deal with the United States, which began to make too many demands, in particular to distance itself from China.

Earlier it became known that as a result of trade restrictions imposed by the United States and its allies,  the import of chips into China has fallen significantly .
