The stretched BMW 5 Series received exclusive interior equipment, but the approach to power plants is very strange
In China, at the Guangzhou Motor Show, the long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series in the G60 body was officially presented – this will not happen either in the USA or in Europe. The car received exclusive options, but the same cannot be said about the power plants.
From the front and rear, the Chinese “five” looks the same as the European one, but if you look in profile, you will notice different proportions, a modified Hofmeister curve and a glowing number 5 on the C-pillar. The vehicle dimensions are 5175 x 1900 x 1520 mm with a wheelbase length of 3105 mm.
For comparison, the dimensions of a regular sedan (European or American) are 5060 x 1900 x 1515 mm with a wheelbase of 2995.
Or here is another comparison, more revealing. The dimensions of the standard (not long-wheelbase) BMW 7 Series of the previous generation (G11) are 5098 x 1902 x 1467 mm with a wheelbase of 3070 mm. That is, the new “five” has surpassed the previous “seven” in size.

In addition to its dimensions, the Chinese BMW 5 Series has other features. For example, an original climate control control unit has appeared in the back row and there is a huge screen with a diagonal of 31.3 inches.
But the approach to choosing units is strange. Only two versions are offered in China, both with rear-wheel drive. Basic – BMW 530 Li with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 258 hp. and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Another option is electric, this is the 340-horsepower BMW i5 eDrive40 L.
The long BMW 5 Series will be produced at the BMW Brilliance joint venture. Production will start in January 2024, and prices will be announced then.
