It travels up to 71 km on pure electricity
Toyota today unveiled the new Prius Prime, a next-generation Prius plug-in hybrid. The car received a fifth-generation Toyota hybrid power plant, which included a 2-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors and a proprietary eCVT variator. The power of the power plant was 220 hp. — Not bad for a family hatchback.
The new model accelerates to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.6 seconds, about 4 seconds faster than its predecessor. The traction battery has a capacity of 13.6 kWh and charges from a 120V outlet (Prius Prime introduced in the US) in about 11 hours.

The Toyota Prius Prime is equipped with a media system with a screen diagonal of 8 or 12.3 inches, a Toyota Safety Sense security system (it includes adaptive cruise control and a lane keeping system), and wireless charging for a smartphone. The top version will have a JBL audio system, and as an option they will offer a 185 W solar panel on the roof. Given that Prius are especially popular in California, this option makes sense.
Sales of the new Toyota Prius Prime in the US will start in May, with prices ranging from $32,350 to $39,170.
