The smartphone withstood scratches, burns and bending tests and worked perfectly
Video blogger Zach Nelson with the nickname JerryRigEverything, known for his brutal tests of smartphones, tested the new foldable smartphone Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5. As the test showed, the smartphone proved to be quite durable, especially when compared to other foldable models on the market.
JerryRigEverything started a durability test by trying to scratch an external screen with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Scratches appeared at level 6 on the Mohs scale, and deeper scratches at level 7. This is similar to the results of most flagships. The screen inside can be scratched by a material with a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale, which is, in principle, natural for a flexible screen. The side bezel and the new hinge of the phone are made of aluminum and are prone to scratches.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 clamshell has passed the survival test with flying colours.
Tests by fire showed the following. The outer screen lasted about 10 seconds before black pixels appeared, while the inner screen lasted 15 seconds.
Finally, the foldable smartphone passed the bending test. Interestingly, the hinge was able to withstand strong bending (in the opposite direction of the standard), and there were no signs of breakage or malfunction.
As a result, the phone survived and remained fully operational. Nelson claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is quite durable, especially when compared to other models on the market.
