Presentation expected next year
The current eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf has been available since late 2019, but it took the Mk8 body almost two more years to reach the United States exclusively in GTI and R variants. New photos of the updated VW Golf, which is already being tested, have appeared on the Internet.
The new Golf 8 facelift prototype is similar to the base version, which has received some new components. A new bumper is visible at the front, similar in shape to the bumper of the new VW Passat. While this prototype doesn’t have camouflage, the bumper is covered in black and white tape that hides the more intricate design details. The headlights and DRLs are identical to the current model, but the production model’s headlights may be redesigned.
The Volkswagen Golf has never looked more like a Passat. New photos have appeared
The rest of the Golf’s exterior looks very familiar, with few noticeable differences between it and the current model. This prototype features a new set of taillights that are expected to include updated LED graphics, although this design is hidden by decals.
While the exterior of the new model won’t be much different from the previous one, the interior will be. The previously spotted prototype featured a large central touchscreen in the center of the dashboard, which was similar to that of the electric ID models, but was even larger and had slightly thinner bezels.
The manufacturer is expected to make improvements to the existing range of mild hybrid engines, which includes 1.0 eTSI and 1.5 eTSI petrol units, as well as 2-liter diesel variants.
Volkswagen is expected to introduce the updated Golf Variant next year.
