British startup Nothing Technology, founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has unveiled its second smartphone. The Nothing Phone (2) model is similar to its predecessor, but has received a number of significant changes and improvements, both external and internal.
Nothing Phone (2) received a rounded glass back panel, which makes it easier to handle. The Glyph interface has also received an update and now consists of 11 segmented LED strips with 33 lighting zones. It offers new use cases for notifications such as volume controls and timer indicators. The user can assign specific applications to the top left LED for Essential Glyph notifications, and it will remain lit until the notification from the notifications menu is removed.
“Transparent” Nothing Phone (2) is officially presented
The smartphone is equipped with a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with Full HD + resolution and a frame rate of up to 120 Hz. The cutout for the front camera (32 MP Sony IMX615 with support for 1080p video recording at 60 fps) is now located in the center.
The main camera on the back now features a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS and updated HDR and Motion Capture modes. The 50MP ultra-wide camera uses the same Samsung JN1 sensor as its predecessor, but also has enhanced HDR capabilities.
The SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 became the hardware basis instead of the previous Snapdragon 778G + from its predecessor. The battery capacity is now 4700 mAh, and the charging speed remains the same: 33 W in wired mode and 15 W in wireless mode. The Android 13 operating system is installed on the smartphone with the Nothing OS 2.0 shell, which adds new widgets, theme colors, folder layouts and covers.
Nothing Phone (2) is offered in white and dark gray color options. The price is $599 for the US and €679 for Europe for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal flash memory. The 12/256 GB version will cost $699/€729, while the top 12/512 GB model will cost $799/€849. Pre-orders open today and open sales are scheduled for July 17, 2023.
