Twitter deliberately blocked popular third-party social network clients.

The reason is a violation of certain Twitter rules

Recently it became known that applications Tweetbot, Twitterrific, Birdie, Echofon and others have lost access to the social network. And now Twitter confirmed that this is not a mistake. These and other programs purposefully denied access to the Twitter API for violating some “long-standing rules”. What those rules are is unknown.

At the same time, the developers of the same Twitterrific and Tweetbot did not receive any termination warnings at all, so it is not clear what the violation was. The shutdowns of third-party clients themselves began a week ago, then it was assumed that this was a mistake.

At the moment, it is not known whether access will be restored, although previously third-party clients have existed for a long time. Perhaps these are some changes in the policy of the social network or increased security requirements that third-party clients do not comply with.

At the same time, the media have already criticized Twitter’s decision, saying that the social network showed a “total lack of respect” for the role third-party programs played in its success.

Earlier, Elon Musk said that people should sit less on social networks.
