Video: Dota 2 from Valve will receive its own animated series on Netflix in March
Dota 2 is one of the most popular games globally, and Valve annually hosts a tournament between the best players with prize pools that can put other traditional sports to shame. So it’s no surprise that the company is looking to expand its universe beyond games.
The company decided to please Dota 2 fans with the animated series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood based on the game. Netflix will present it on March 25, 2021. That is, in a month, subscribers will be able to appreciate this creation. It is worth saying that we are talking about hand-drawn and pretty good animation – let’s hope that the plot does not disappoint.
The series, which will include 8 episodes in its first season, is being produced by Studio Mir, a South Korean studio responsible for The Legend of Korra. Ashley Miller, best known for his work on Thor and X-Men: First Class, is a writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Ki Hyun Ryu, who worked on the animated series Voltron: The Legendary Protector and The Legend of Korra, is a co-producer.
“DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” will be dedicated to Dragon Knight and Princess Mirana. The description says: “This massive fantasy series tells the story of Davion, known as the Dragon Knight and dedicated to fighting the world’s disasters. After clashes with the powerful ancient dragon of the Eldwurm race, as well as with the noble princess Mirana, carrying out a secret mission, Davion finds himself drawn into events much larger than he could have imagined. “
Given that Dota 2 is a multiplayer game, it is difficult to reveal the world’s plot and history in it, unlike more traditional role-playing single-player projects. Therefore, animated films are a good option for Valve to give fans of the game more backstory. Perhaps the film adaptation will be interesting even for those who know nothing about the game.
