Video: the origami master created the heroes of the NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 from paper …
In preparation for the launch of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 … Publishing House Square Enix shared with fans a video about two paper figurines of the project’s characters. A renowned origami artist created the figurines from Finland named Juho Konkkola.
The author was able to recreate in detail Emil and the main character from a sheet of paper, conveying the appearance of the characters loved by fans, their clothes, and weapons. The process of preparing and embodying the paper figures took 210 hours. Kenkkela used the traditional Japanese origami technique: both characters are folded from square sheets of Wenzhou paper without the help of scissors or other tools.
To reliably reflect the main features (hair, fingers, weapons, and clothing details), the author set to work planning all the complex folds. As part of the preparation, the master made hundreds of folds on each sheet of paper, spending a whole day on each character.
Following Kenkkela, he collected all the folded sheets into a layout, connecting the main parts into ready-made shapes. He continued folding in large block-type pieces to recreate the smallest details, like the thin katana of the protagonist or Emil’s faithful mace. As a final touch, the artist used a wet folding technique to add detail and finish to the figures.
“The process of creating the characters for NieR Replicant ver .1.22474487139… in the origami technique was painstaking and long, but I’m happy with the result, ” says Kenkkelä. – When I first saw the sketch, I immediately imagined how I could breathe life into Emil and the main character using origami. The hero was challenging due to its complex shapes, but the additional details, in my opinion, give the result a dramatic effect. I hope I could capture the essence of the characters, and fans of the game will enjoy my work. “
The premiere of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 … will take place on April 23, 2021, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC ( Steam ). The original game was released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The new version was recreated for more modern systems and received several other additions and improvements.
