This is a weak, but affordable and compact external video card
ADLink has a very unusual product in its range: an external Pocket AI video card . It was introduced back in April, and now tests of this solution have appeared on the Web.
The novelty relies on the GA107 GPU, like the RTX 3050, has 2048 CUDA cores, 4 GB of GDDR6 memory, a 64-bit memory bus and a TDP of only 25 watts. The last factor, of course, greatly limits the capabilities of the graphics core. At the same time, despite such a modest power consumption, the adapter is not only equipped with an active cooling system with a fairly large radiator, but also requires additional power through a separate USB-C port.
What can a pocket-sized, stripped-down RTX 3050 with a TDP of just 25W and a USB-C connection do?
The device is initially positioned not at all for games, although it can certainly also be used for them. But the authors of the review from StorageReview did not test the game.
As you can see, in professional tasks, the external graphics card outperforms the Intel Xe iGPU with 96 compute units by 2-4 times. At the same time, a full-fledged desktop Nvidia A5000 Laptop is 2.5-3.5 times faster than the novelty.
For Pocket AI, they ask for $430, which is not much by the standards of external video cards, but the performance here is very modest. At the same time, the GPD G1 was recently announced , which is based on the Radeon RX 7600. In games, this solution is definitely many times more productive, but the retail price will be almost twice as high.
