Anna Sorokin, famously known as the “Fake heiress,” a convicted con artist who managed to deceive New York’s high society, surprised everyone by releasing a country song last Friday. Collaborating with TikTok songwriter Brooke Butler and the band Audio Chateau, Sorokin, also known as Anna Delvey, created the song while under house arrest in Manhattan. Titled “What the Hell,” the track will serve as the intro and theme song for Sorokin’s podcast, “The Anna Delvey Show,” as reported by Deadline.

The approximately two-and-a-half-minute song features vocals from Sorokin herself, recorded during a phone call she made while incarcerated at Riker’s Island. In the recording, she introduces herself as “Anna Delvey.”

The song was co-written by AudioUP CEO Jared Gutstadt, Brooke Butler, and country songwriter Scarlett Burke. Gutstadt mentioned in an interview with NBC News that Sorokin played an active role in curating the song. She listened to demos sent by him and chose the one that would represent the brand of her podcast.

Gutstadt believes that Sorokin’s notoriety, fueled by the success of the Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” will help the song gain radio airplay. The series depicted her elaborate scheme of infiltrating New York’s social circles while posing as a wealthy heiress and defrauding financial institutions, banks, hotels, and individuals, totaling $275,000.

“The Anna Delvey Show” podcast, produced by Sean Glass, is distributed by AudioUp, marking the first time that Sorokin’s voice is directly heard, allowing her to communicate with the public.

In her deception, Sorokin adopted the alias Anna Delvey and successfully posed as the wealthy daughter of a German diplomat, flaunting a fabricated fortune of 60 million euros. She enjoyed mingling within New York City’s elite social scene for several years before her fraudulent activities were uncovered.

In 2019, she was convicted on charges of theft of services and larceny, but she plans to appeal the verdict. After serving only three years of her four- to twelve-year sentence, she was released in early 2021. However, shortly after her release, she was taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

As of October, Sorokin was released on a $10,000 bail bond and is subject to strict conditions, including 24-hour home confinement with electronic monitoring and a ban on accessing social media.
