Global girl group XG is making waves in the music industry with their infectious blend of hip-hop, R&B, and futuristic pop. Fresh off the release of their new single “Woke Up,” the group is also embarking on their highly anticipated first world tour, aptly named “The First HOWL.”
From “Tippy Toes” to World Domination: XG’s Meteoric Rise
XG (short for “Xtraordinary Girls”) debuted in 2022 with the single “Tippy Toes,” a bold statement of their ambition to dominate the music scene. The seven-member group – Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona – hails from global entertainment company XGALX, a project under Japanese entertainment conglomerate Avex.
With a focus on reaching a global audience, XG sings entirely in English. They’ve actively promoted within the K-Pop system, performing on Korean music shows and music festivals worldwide, including the U.S., Australia, and Singapore.
Genre-Bending Evolution: From Y2K R&B to Futuristic Hip-Hop
XG’s journey has been one of continuous musical exploration. Their third single release, featuring “Left Right” and “Shooting Star,” channeled the addictive melodies of Y2K R&B girl groups, infused with a signature futuristic aesthetic showcased in their music videos.
Their first EP, “NEW DNA,” further solidified their versatility. “New Dance” brought back the Y2K summer vibes, while “GRL GVNG” showcased their fierce hip-hop side, referencing the “female empire” XG is building.
“Woke Up”: A New Era of XG
“Woke Up” marks a new chapter for XG. This all-rap single, described by XGALX as featuring “808 bass infused with sounds unique to East Asia,” showcases the group’s talents. Each member embodies a distinct character in the song and music video, creating a dynamic and visually captivating experience.
Alphaz Assemble: Fan Excitement for the New Era
The group’s dedicated fanbase, known as Alphas, is buzzing with excitement for “Woke Up.” They’re eager to see the new hairstyles and outfits sported by the members, hinting at a fresh direction for XG. Beyond Music: XG’s “Undefeated” Collaboration
XG’s talents extend beyond music. They recently collaborated with Riot Games, creating “Undefeated,” the official hype song for the Valorant Champions Tour Pacific 2024. This energetic track aligns perfectly with XG’s message of perseverance and victory, resonating with fans and gamers alike.
The First HOWL Begins: A Global Tour Awaits
The much-anticipated “The First HOWL” kicked off with two sold-out shows in Osaka, Japan. The tour continues in Yokohama before making its way across Asia. North American and European dates are expected in October and November, respectively.
Jurin, XG’s leader, expressed the group’s immense joy and dedication: “It was a huge goal for us… We’re rehearsing right now to prepare, from morning to night… The final result will just knock the socks off of all the Alphaz out there.”
Interestingly, despite their diverse discography, all seven members unanimously chose “Left Right” as the song they’re most excited to perform live, showcasing their strong connection as a group.
