Yakuza director explains why Kazuma Kiryu still hasn’t appeared in any fighting game – women are beaten there

Toshihiro Nagoshi, director of the Yakuza series and founder of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, commented on fan interest in Kazuma Kiryu’s appearance in fighting games in an interview with Red Bull France.

Recall that fans of Yakuza have long considered her central character – a gangster with a good heart Kazumu Kiryu – an ideal candidate to appear in games like Tekken or Virtua Fighter.

During his professional career, Kiryu has beaten hundreds of bandits and robbers, but despite this, in 15 years since the inception of Yakuza, not a single fighting game has been honored with its presence.

According to Nagoshi, his team often receives requests to place the Dragon of Dojima in this or that fighting game, but the developer himself does not strive to realize the wishes of the fans.

“Of course, there are exceptions, but there are often female characters in fighting games, and I personally don’t want to see Kiryu beat up women,” Nagoshi explained his point of view.

Kiryu’s last major role in Yakuza dates back to 2018 when Yakuza 6: The Song of Life was released. With the release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the famed hero Kamuro-cho faded into the background.

Recall that in early July, Yakuza fans saw a hint of Kiryu’s appearance in Tekken 7 in the photos from Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, but the hopes of the fans of the series did not come true.
