Some people still manage to watch the video even when receiving such notifications
YouTube has begun to actively combat ad blockers. YouTube communications manager Christopher Lawton explains that the service is now warning users that they should allow advertising or try a YouTube Premium subscription.
In some cases, users receive this YouTube notification regarding ad blockers but continue to watch videos, and in other cases, YouTube now blocks playback completely every time.
YouTube completely blocks video viewing when ad blockers are detected
YouTube confirmed it had disabled video for ad blocker users in June, but Lawton called it just a “small global experiment” at the time. Now YouTube has stepped up the fight. Over the past few weeks, more and more users with ad blockers installed have reported that they are unable to watch videos.
Lawton claims that “the use of ad blockers” violates the platform’s terms of service, adding that “advertising supports a diverse ecosystem of creators around the world and allows billions of people to access their favorite content on YouTube.”
