Aircel announces tariff plans for iPhone 4S

The discounts offered claim to give you 50 per cent of the money spent on your iPhone back in two years. But we remain quite skeptical about whether that's actually going to translate into real usage

Aircel has finally released the tariff plans for the iPhone 4S, and if you thought the handset’s pricing was insane, there really won’t be words left to describe this.

For starters, gone are the ‘full money back’ plans that made the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 such attractive purchases. Instead, the best you can manage now is a 50% money back plan for each handset.

Just be glad they don't have a row for 'No. of kidneys needed'

As you can see, the cheapest iPhone 4S tariff plan sets you back by Rs. 930 per month (excluding taxes) and gives you only 650MB of 3G data and 350 SMSes. That’s just under 22MB of data usage every day and 12 messages per day. The addition of 1GB of Wi-Fi data usage, through Aircel’s tie-up with SpectraNet, is a nice bonus though.

Honestly, we have never seen much sense in the supposed ‘money back schemes’ that Aircel has introduced in the past, but this one is loonier than any of the inmates in Arkham Asylum. We can’t think of anyone who is going to use their iPhone at its full capacity and be able to manage restricting themselves to the 650MB of 3G data usage.

Aircel also notes in the small print that users in 2G circles will get 2GB of data.

Really, if you are planning on buying the iPhone 4S for upwards of Rs. 45,000 and a tariff plan to go with it, we would love to hear your reasons why.
