11th Gen Intel Core family will include not only new Rocket Lake-S, but older Comet Lake-S as well

The 11th Gen Intel Core I desktop family is expected to be announced on January 11 at CES 2021 (new CPUs will go on sale in March). Until now, it was believed that all these processors would belong to the Rocket Lake-S series based on the Cypress Cove architecture. But, as it turns out, the family could also include updated current-generation Comet Lake-S processors.

According to ijiandao.com, the 11th Gen Intel Core will consist of Core i5, i7 and i9-branded Rocket Lake-S and Core i3-branded Comet Lake-S Refresh for entry-level systems. That is, the 2-core and 4-core solutions will retain the good old Skylake architecture.

The Core i9 series is expected to be represented by three solutions: 11900K, 11900 and 11900T. The “K” will get a TDP of 125W, the regular 65W, and the “T” 35W. Both the Core i9 and Core i7 will get 16MB of cache and the latest Intel Gen12 Xe-LP integrated graphics with 32 execution units (EU).

All Core i5 processors will have 6 cores and 12 threads. That is, Intel will not disable multithreading. Processors 11600 and 11500 will offer 32 UE graphics, while 11400 will be limited to 24 blocks.

The Core i3 series will feature Comet Lake-S Refresh solutions. It’s unclear what the Refresh means in the title – probably slightly higher frequencies, that’s all. The next-generation Intel Pentium and Celeron will also be based on Comet Lake-S Refresh. The specs published by the site look identical to the current generation, so the main difference can really only be the increased frequencies.

Informant @momomo_us also shared some of the specs of the Core I 11. He claims that an 8-core Core i7-11700 without the K suffix will have a base frequency of 2.5 Hz and a maximum Turbo mode of 4.9 GHz, while a 6-core Core i5-11400 – 2.6 GHz and 4.4 GHz, respectively. Thus, the bass frequencies will drop slightly compared to the 10th Gen Core i, and the Turbo will increase. The Cypress Cove architecture will bring an increase in instructions executed per clock cycle, so even with a decrease in frequency, performance should improve.
