120 fps and up to 4K: Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s games will be updated on Xbox Series X and S

Microsoft has announced plans to improve the Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The upgraded versions will be released as a free anthology update for Xbox One on November 17th.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection on next-gen consoles will support up to 120 frames per second – double the current Xbox One version. Microsoft also revealed that the Xbox Series X compilation boasts up to 4K resolution, which suggests a dynamic resolution to ensure consistent performance across select games in the collection. The resolution of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox Series S has not been reported. The changes will affect both the campaign and multiplayer modes. In addition, Microsoft has announced plans to update its split-screen local multiplayer mode.

As such, six Halo games will be optimized for Xbox Series X and S – Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4. The Halo: The Master Chief Collection update should help fill the void left by Halo Infinite’s 2021 postponement.

As a reminder, 343 Industries is currently continuing to bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC. All parts of the collection are already available to computer users, except for Halo 4.

Xbox Series X and S will go on sale on November 10.
