50% of PlayStation 5 SoCs are defective. Sony sharply cuts forecast for console shipments

Previously, Sony intended to release 15 million PS5s before the end of the current fiscal year, that is, until March 31, 2021. Now the plans have been significantly adjusted: Sony plans to release only 11 million new consoles over the same period.

Bloomberg reports that the main reason is the unexpectedly high scrap rate in the new SoCs, which should be the heart of the PlayStation 5. More specifically, the quality output of the new SoCs for the PlayStation 5 is about 50%.

Sources, who wished to maintain their anonymity, claim that at the moment the situation in production is gradually improving, and the percentage of quality products is growing, but so far there is no need to talk about stable supplies.

Sony is expected to announce the release date and pricing for the PlayStation 5 during an official video presentation scheduled for tomorrow. According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi, the older version of the PS5 can cost as little as $ 449, while the digital version can be offered for less than $ 400.
