5G will be available to everyone: budget processors Qualcomm Snapdragon 4-series will receive support for fifth-generation networks

Qualcomm Technologies has announced plans to release processors for 5G mass-market smartphones as part of the IFA 2020 electronics exhibition, which will take place from September 3 to 5 in Berlin (the capital of Germany).

5G networks are now supported on the flagship Snapdragon 865 Plus and Snapdragon 865 platforms, as well as last year’s Snapdragon 855 platform. In addition, the 5G modem is included in the Snapdragon 768G, Snapdragon 765 / 765G, and Snapdragon 690 chips.

Qualcomm is now reportedly intending to bring 5G support to its upcoming entry-level Snapdragon 4-series processors. Such chips will become the basis of low-cost smartphones for the mainstream segment, which should help to rapidly increase the share of 5G devices in the global market.

One of the first smartphones based on 5G Snapdragon 4 series chips is going to be presented by the Chinese company Xiaomi. These processors will be adopted by other well-known developers, including Motorola and OPPO.

The devices equipped with 5G Snapdragon 4-series chips will hit the commercial market in the first quarter of 2021.
