Their number increased overnight

Already, 96% of OpenAI employees have signed a letter saying they could leave and join Sam Altman at Microsoft unless the startup’s board resigns and brings back the ousted CEO along with co-founder and former president Greg Brockman.

Among the signatories was Ilya Sutskever, the company’s chief scientist and member of its board, who is accused of coordinating the coup against Altman. The letter was signed by 738 of OpenAI’s 770 employees, or about 96%. Yesterday  there were about 600 people.

Shortly before the letter was published, Sutskever wrote: “I deeply regret my participation in the actions of the board. I never intended to harm OpenAI. I love everything we’ve created together and will do whatever it takes to bring the company back together.”

96% of OpenAI employees want to leave the company after the scandal with the dismissal of Sam Altman

On Friday, OpenAI’s board suspended Altman, saying “he was not always forthcoming with the board of directors, which limited his ability to perform his duties.”

Meera Murati, CTO of OpenAI, was appointed interim CEO. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella later announced that Altman and Brockman would join the tech giant to lead a new cutting-edge artificial intelligence research unit. Nadella also said he would welcome other OpenAI employees.

OpenAI’s board of directors decided to remove Murati and appoint another interim CEO, Emmett Shear , the former CEO of Twitch.
